Common questions

What parents ask most, answered plainly.

How does my child log in?

They tap their own avatar on the "Who's studying today?" screen, then enter a 4-digit PIN. No email address or password is needed for a child to use the app.

What will my child actually do in the app?

  • Flashcards, using spaced repetition
  • Short quizzes to check understanding
  • Help from Pip, an AI study buddy
  • Notes, to save what they have learned
  • Badges and rewards for effort and consistency

My child struggles with reading. Will they cope?

Cards and questions have a read-aloud button, so reading level does not block them from engaging. For Foundation and Year 1, BrainBase also simplifies itself automatically: bigger buttons, simpler choices, and the quiz, notes and AI chat stay hidden until they are older.

Will Pip just do my child’s homework for them?

No, and Pip says so directly on the first screen your child sees: “I won’t just give you answers, we’ll work through it together.” Pip answers a question with a question, working from something the child already understands toward the thing they do not.

Is it safe for my child to talk to an AI?

Every message your child sends passes through several checks before it reaches Pip, and Pip's reply is checked again before your child sees it. Anything concerning is blocked and flagged for you rather than answered.

No automated system catches everything, which is why conversations stay reviewable and you can limit or switch off the tutor at any time.

What happens when my child gets something wrong?

Nothing is taken away. They see an explanation straight away rather than just a cross, and they can try again. If they want to understand it properly, one tap sends that exact question to Pip with the correct answer already attached, so they never have to explain what confused them.

And if they are having a run of trouble, Pip steps in unprompted, offering an easier way to answer or showing them the answer outright rather than leaving them stuck.

Can I limit or turn off the AI tutor?

Yes. Each profile has a daily message limit you can adjust, and the tutor can be switched off entirely.

What if my child forgets their PIN?

You can reset it yourself from the admin area. There are no recovery emails to chase.

What age is BrainBase for?

Foundation through Year 6, roughly ages 5 to 12.
