Exactly right, and you just wrote a fraction. The 4 is how many slices altogether, the 1 is how many you ate. What do you think 3 slices would be?

Why we built this
If your child has learning adjustments at school, you already know the routine. Shorter instructions. More time. Someone reading the question aloud. A different way to answer.
Then they come home, open a study app, and get exactly the same screen as every other child. Everything the school worked out about how your child learns is left at the door, and the evening becomes a negotiation instead of ten minutes of study.
So we built the adjustments into the app itself. Not a settings page. The actual content, the wording, and the way a question is asked.
BrainBase started as a study app for one family, built around the Australian Curriculum V9. The adjustment layer came from a simple observation: the software already knows when it has simplified a question, read something aloud, or scaffolded an explanation. It should behave accordingly, and it should say so.
That last part turned out to matter to teachers as well. Every adjustment the app delivers is logged as it happens, which is exactly the evidence schools spend the end of each term reconstructing from memory. School features are next.
What changes
Concrete differences, not a feature list.
A child who needs extensive support in English may be working comfortably at year level in maths. One setting cannot describe both.
One adjustment level applied across everything a student touches.
Each of the 8 ACARA learning areas carries its own level, independent of the overall setting.
Read-aloud used at 9:14. Simplified language delivered at 9:22. Tutor scaffolding applied at 9:40. Categorised, timestamped, exportable.
Reconstructed from memory and notebooks when evidence is due.
Logged as delivered against the four NCCD categories, filterable by date range, exported as PDF or CSV.

Getting something wrong is the most useful moment in a study session, and the one most apps waste.

An explanation appears immediately, and one tap hands the exact question to Pip with the subject and the correct answer already attached, so the child never has to explain what they were stuck on.
Two before a message reaches the tutor. Two before a reply reaches your child.
A single content filter, and a promise that it is safe for kids.
Pattern check, topic check, AI classification, then an output check on the reply. Anything flagged is blocked and surfaced to an adult, not answered.
